I asked this question when I was in store purchasing the tv. You do not have to purchase a soundbar to hear the tv. The soundbar enhances the sound if you need it to be louder without having to turn your volume up all the way which is not good for the speaker. I did not get the soundbar and my volume is fine in my family room. I suggest you try the tv in your home and if you need it enhanced, then you can purchase s soundbar. You may not need one.
