“I currently have a 3810X model. The wireless download speed varies from 2-3mbps (usual) - 9mbps (once). Will this unit improve these speeds and under what conditions? I cannot hardwire this remote TV. Wifi only is available. Thanks.”

Your wireless download speeds will not support streaming adequately. This device will do nothing to improve your speeds. Either step up to a better wireless plan or get a router that provides better wireless speeds.
