Yes, i was surprised that this does turn the tv on and off and it also controls the volume. I only have Hulu live so i am down to 1 remote and that makes this work it. i plan to buy a few more for the other TV's in my house.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your TV support the feature - the Roku does turn the TV On/Off. Also, if the TV supports it, it will control the TV volume. My Samsung TV allows both power/volume support - my Insignia TV only allows power support.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your TV supports CEC, the Roku triggers it when it wakes up. This should turn your TV on. It does for me. This Roku also includes TV power, volume and mute buttons on its remote. These require that you point the remote at the TV, of course.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I went to the Roku site under Q&A and this came up. It said the boxes are made from several manufacturers and they are different as to how the remotes work. Seems the favorite one is that the remote will either turn your TV off with the power button or the remote will control the volumn as long as your using the TV speakers, but not both. The boxes that were brought out in 2018 controlled both and had a beautiful sharp picture. You wont' find that in the 2019 version.
