• You can plug the HDMI cable from the Ultra into either your receiver or your TV. Either way, if otherwise set up correctly, you can get 5.1 surround. I have my Ultra connected to my AVR.

• You should naturally get surround sound if your receiver is connected to your TV ..you are not going to be able to plug in your receiver to the Roku if that is what you are asking.?
