“How well does this actually work to prevent all this grease from building up all over my kitchen? I don’t have a top cabinet. Can I install a shelf above the stove and mount this to it? Note: I only have one stud to use above stove. weight?”

I would say if it’s not going to be outside vented it’s not going to do a great job removing smoke/grease from your kitchen. Most non outside vent options just rely on a small charcoal filter for this purpose and it isn’t enough if you regularly cook. It’s still better than nothing.

I would strongly suggest that you go into Best Buy and talk to their appliance people. They can advise you better.
