I read elsewhere that you cannot. Thus since I own one I am very disappointed that my contractor chose this model from Best Buy. I hate it.

Some Samsung Microwaves do have the ability to operate both the timer and the Microwave at the same time, but the ME18H704SFS does not.

That is correct. This microwave won't operate when the timer is on. Not sure why.

Most above range microwaves don't allow using the times for more than one thing at a time. If you've replaced your stove or range they almost always offer a timer, so we use both the microwave and oven timer together when we need to time more than one item.
