Hi Mike, Security and quality of Samsung products are always a top priority with us here at Samsung. Let me get and answer your question about an RFID with the Samsung water filter. At this point, Samsung water filters do not have RFID chips installed in them; however, please use our Authentication Tag that comes with the filter to make sure your filter is a genuine Samsung filter. Most Samsung water and ice dispensers will work without an AquaPure water filter installed. The water filter housings are designed as rotary valves that allow the water to bypass the water filter whenever there is no filter or the filter is not in the locked position. Leo
