I had this same question since this Family Hub is basically running Android but with Samsung's overlay on it. I called Samsung in June 2020 and spoke with a representative who said that Samsung is still updating software for their first model which came out in 2016. So we're talking about 4 years at the time of this post. The rep could not answer the question (she didn't know) I asked her as to how long would Samsung provide software updates to their Family Hub refrigerator. One thing to remember is that this Family Hub, like tablets, smartphones, computers, etc...only so much can be downloaded, only so many updates. There will come a point in time in which it will not be able to run any more updates. I am considering one of the Family Hub models but the track record isn't long enough to know just how long Samsung will continue to push out updates. For an example, maybe the updates will continue to arrive for 5 or 6 years but no more updates beyond that. If you have the refrigerator for 10 years but you will possibly have a hub that is running slow in part because it has taken all the updates it can hold and you will have to live with that until it's time for your next refrigerator purchase. If the hub goes out completely and outside the warranty period then you are just stuck with a refrigerator with a non functioning hub on it. This is just some things to take into consideration and is not to discourage anyone from purchasing it. As I have stated in this post I am considering one of Samsung's Family Hub models and will make the best decision for my home.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not sure if Samsung will guarantee software updates forever. I would call them to verify how long they will support the software on your refrigerator, or google for third party persons or organizations that may support software for Samsung refrigerators.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As soon as I received the Samsung Refrigerator, I connected it to my wireless network and upgraded the software. There are a multitude of applications available to load on this refrigerator through Samsung and third partys.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is no REAL reason they could not supply updates for the 'life' of the refrigerator (my last GE Profile lasted 16 years) as the software is either 32 or 64 bit. Therefore the hardware can support 32 or 64 bit software of any version. What all of the companies have done is implement a forced upgrade path that allows them to "stop supporting" hardware that is otherwise perfectly fine. A perfect example of this (outside of Apples repeated offenses of slowing down hardware without the knowledge of customers whenever a new iphone comes out) is Windows 11 being installed on a processor that is around 12 years old. This is in stark contrast to Windows 11 being "incompatible" with hardware that is less than 5 years old. The reason this happened is Microsoft failed to list the 12 year old hardware on their "incompatible" list.
