Perhaps you need to test your water ? If you're on private well water your County Health Dept can test it. If you're on City or County water you need to call them to see. The fridge itself and filter shouldn't have anything to do with your water tasting bad since the filters job is to keep impurities out of you water ! Sounds like it's an issue you need to get checked it's not the fridge !
