If you use a 30amp breaker on 20amp wire (#12) and draw more than 20amps , the wire becomes the fuse and short and cause a fire. So no use a MAX 20amp breaker with #12 wire
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.12/3 wire is only rated for 20 amps. You have to use 10/3 wire for 30 amps. Don't put over 80% of breaker size on the breaker. i.e. 20 amp breaker should only have 16 amps on it.
