You have to pause the cycle, the add wash door locks when the cycle is running

High-Efficiency Stackable Front Load Washer with Steam and AddWash™ if you need to pause the washing machine before adding additional clothes. Regarding your concern, here are the steps. When the Add Wash indicator turns on, you can stop the washer and put additional laundry into the drum. The Add Door opens by more than 100° for easy access. 1. Press Start/Pause to stop operation. 2. Press the upper area of the Add Door to unlock. 3. Open the Add Door and insert additional laundry into the drum. 4. Lift the Add Door back into place, and then push it gently until you hear a click. The Add Door is locked. 5. Press Start/Pause to resume operation I suggest you check this link to your user manual for further assistance.
