In general, it helps. Small rooms may be able to get by without it, but anything larger than a bedroom will definitely need some type of external sound source.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A sound bar is not mandatory, but if you want a fuller sound I would recommend auxiliary speakers with a sub woofer system. On our TV this sounds really great. We notice it the most when playing DVDs.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The sound isn't great but I find it's quite adequate for regular TV viewing. It has rear mounted speakers which sound different and it took me a couple of months to get used to it. Mine is NOT wall mounted so I can't speak for that set up. I wasn't happy with the sound for watching Blu rays so I bought a sound bar. Wasn't totally happy with that either so I'm back to just the TV speakers. They suit me fine for most of my viewing. Plenty of volume; just not much bass for theater sound movies. I'm pleased with my purchase.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Our TV is in a smaller bedroom so the speakers in it are more than ok. If you were to put it in a bigger room such as a living room or rec room you might need a sound bar.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the sound isn't great and if you care about sound at all you'll want something better. When I bought the TV, Best Buy was selling a Vizio sound bar with great sound for just $100-ish and it was beautiful. Just be sure the sound syncs to your remote or you'll be juggling two remotes all the time. I finally had to give up the Vizio and get a home theater surround sound system, but I needed a new Blu-Ray player anyway so it wasn't that much of a problem.
