Yes you can, It's easier to do via an AppleTV if you have one. Otherwise hit the settings button on your remote. Go to the sound menu. Select “sound output” and then “Bluetooth speaker list.” With your AirPods in their case, press and hold the back button until the indicator light flashes white. Start searching for devices on the TV and they should show up in the list. It took me a couple of tries to get done personally, but it worked.
