Generally, yes -- a TV's diagonal screen measurement will always be greater than either of its respective sides. While a table's dimensions (or those of an entertainment center) should generally determine the maximum size for a supported TV, it's more important to know what the maximum weight that table can support. It's okay to have a little overhang, but only as long as the TV isn't too heavy for its stand!

Some televisions will have larger bezels around the screen that may make it impossible to fit if space is the primary concern for the restriction. If you have a flat-top table stand with nothing that would be around screen you may be able to have a larger screen on the stand if the stand is rated to hold the larger television's weight. You may wish to resubmit a question with more specific information on your stand and we can review this with you.
