Will the remote control my cable set top box ? null

It will control Apple TV and Firestick. I have DIRECTV and it will not control the channels or searches.

The remote will control a directv mini geni, and a older Sony blue ray player. That is all I have tried it on so far.

Yes, I have DirecTV and it controls all of the functions that the DTV remote does. There is a learning curve because the One Remote is much simpler, but it does work.

Our TV is the model #UN49MU8000FXZA. The controller that came with it looks identical to the one for this TV. We have Fios, and the remote controls it. However, we have to push more buttons to get it to do what the STB controller does with one button. When setting up the app for it, the TV will give you a list of STB's that it supports.

Yes if you have it plugged into your sub or hdmi port the tv will automatically sense it and you will be able to control your item from the tv remote such as a fire stick

Negative ,but your remote for cable can be programmed for both cable and TV,
