I believe it is designed to seem more realistic because in real life they sounds differentiate all around us. Sometimes during the day and then at night when using the antenna at times there can be random interference , getting an amplified antenna higher. Or in an attic and finding a spot that picks up the most channels by rotating the antenna. I thought of using a wooden lazy Susan and rotating somehow,(I hate getting out off my recliner once I’m comfortable, too! ) In the good old days , they had an electric motor on antennas to turn them in different directions with a control that showed direction. Like the song says:: “These are the good old days1 “
