• The total height of the washer with the top open is approx. 58" - 58 1/2". No the top does not stay up if not open all the way

• Hi Brian! Page 17 of the user manual (https://bit.ly/3aGAHPm) has a helpful diagram with all the dimensions you need. In order to ensure the lid remains open on it's own, it would need to be fully opened and leaning slightly towards the back of the unit. ^Jecca
