The only time you need the sound from the tv through optical as a source is if you are watching tv with an antenna source (RG6 connected to tv) or streaming through the tv apps. If you are using those types of content, you're likely not getting atmos anyway and optical, which can handle up to 5.1 will do fine for the content received. Don't buy a new tv just for this.
