Does the griddle rest on top of the existing middle grate or does the middle grate lift off and the griddle sits flush with the other grates? null

The griddle rests on top of the existing metal grates and there are detents that it sits in so it doesn't slide around. The only caveat is that you can only center a small 9" omelet pan if the griddle is left in place. For any larger pans, you need to move it over to one side.

Griddle sits on top. There are 3 grates which cover the entire surface of the oven, but you do not remove any for griddle use. That would be cool though.
