“This is a "free standing"...whats the major difference with a "slide-in" and can this unit still be used in between cabinets? Like a slide-in I think.”

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes this unit can be used in between cabinets. We have ours in between cabinets. The only notable difference to me between a free standing and a slide in is the location of the controls. The freestanding unit, the controls are higher, slide in unit the controls are lower. They both can slide between cabinets. Hope this helps. I've attached pictures to show you the difference.
