You kind of answer your own question here....Think about it, your connecting your tv through your receiver using the HDMI Arc port (ARC = Audio Return Channel) HDMI ARC stands for "High Definition Multimedia Interface Audio Return Channel". ARC allows for the "upstream" and "downstream" of signals over a single HDMI connection between your TV and any ARC-equipped A/V deices. This allows for the use of a single remote for all of your connected devices most common functions. Now that you know what HDMI ARC is if you didn't already, yes, to answer your question, if you connected your tv to your receiver with the HDMI cable and the sound from your TV passes through your receiver and your receiver is a surround receiver (whether it be 3.1 up to 7.2 channel surround sound system) than you will have sound in all your speakers with that sound being processed by your receiver to push the audio to the correct speaker. So if you have a movie where there is an explosion that would be heard behind you, your receiver will process that sound to the rear speakers, if the explosion is to your right and a helicopter is on the left of the screen, than the explosion would come from your right side speakers and the helicopter should be heard from the left speakers. If you have a receiver that supports Adobe Atmos, than it would almost sound like you were standing right in the movie with all the different sounds surrounding you giving you an almost very close resemblance of it seeming like its really going on. Like if a plane flies past you in the movie it would give the impression like a real plane is flying past you. I wish I had a surround sound system that supported Atmos its about the best surround sound you can get and hear.
