Hi jpscott - The buttons on your remote have multiple functions. The +/- (volume) button is rocked up or down to adjust the volume. To mute the sound, press the button. When pressed for 1 second or more, the Accessibility Shortcuts appears. You can also check the volume control of the external device (cable box) connected to your TV. Also, check the cable connection between an external device and the TV ^Val
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The volume button on this remote is kind of strange. It clicks up or down to adjust the volume and can also be pushed in to mute the sound. You can't just put your thumb on the button like you can with the other buttons. You have to place your thumb on the remote right under the volume button and slide your finger up to the button to get it to work. Its kind of weird at first but you get used to it, I hope that answers the question I think you were asking. I had to show my dad how to do it, he kept pushing the button in and muting the sound. You can also trying raising the volume on the cable box itself.
