If you pair the sound bar to the TV (very easy) you can definitely use the TV remote to change the volume, etc. You will need the sound bar remote for fine tuning your bass, treble, subwoofer, and any sound field (surround, voice, sports, etc.) programs.

I have a curved Samsung TV and audio is setup to send to Soundbar via HDMI ARC and I am able to control the volume with either of the remotes and also other universal remotes.

Yes But I recommend purchase of a Harmony all in one remote.
