Depends on what cell phone case you buy, my Spigen case worked but it was pretty sensitive so you have to make sure it's perfectly placed on the platform. -anthony

I believe you don't . I do not remove my case for my 6 Edge Plus

I' m not sure about your phone. But with the new iPhone 8 this works with the case on. Even with a really thick case like the otter box defender.
