“Can the thumbprint security feature simply be turned off? I have zero need for it and don't want to have to go through multiple steps to turn on the computer and boot it up. Thanks,”

Really don't know... but have found it to be quick and reliable... so far. Might be an obscure setting to disable the feature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think so but I'm not sure... This is really fast and simple. Set up the computer so that when you open it, it automatically starts to boot up. I have it just like that and then I do the fingerprint which is way faster than the phone versions. And voila speedy access and security
