You don't have to be close to the case. You can leave the case in your car and do your business, however I recommend to have the case close by for that extra charge

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've had my buds about 25 to 30 feet away from both the case and the phone (in a different room without a clear line of sight) and still maintained a good connection. I never attempted going any further than that.
