I use total wireless. You can transfer your number to total and it uses verizon network. Thats what I did. For total wireless you have to use a total wireless or verizon phone because of the bands.

There was an app already downloaded on the phone when I set my dads up. I was able to successfully transfer my phone number and my dads phone number to Total wireless when I moved us from AT&T. My sister, her husband and one of my brothers were also successful transferring their phone numbers when they moved from Verizon to Total wireless. I can’t answer your first question since it’s not something we had to do. A bit of information that might help, Total wireless uses the same cell towers as Verizon wireless.
