No, you can use your phone on whatever plan you want; without a 5G plan your phone would just use 4G instead.

The 5g is just a certain signal that boost your service but only on certain areas at least at this time. Keep in mind some carrier offers the promo on a certain plan only. You are better off contacting your service provider to check unless you intend to purchase unlock phone.
