Is the $20 a phone payment or your monthly line access fee? I'm guessing it's the line access fee. 
If You purchase the Note 8, and your phone cost is $26.50 a month, plus $20 line access you, will be paying $46.50 plus taxes and fees.
You may also have to pay, the $30 upgrade fee.
Call Verizon before you purchase, inform them you are upgrading and would they please waive this fee. Ask them to notate this in their system... Because Best buy can't waive it.

In upgrading, to keep your same phone number, you activate the new phone, deactivating the old one. BBY website has a trade-in estimating tool you can try, to see if you get any trade in value on the old phone.

With verizon it will be 20 for the line access and 26.50 for the phone. So 46.50 total plus tax
