Any credit you receive (in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card) can then be used as a form of payment when purchasing the new phone. If, however, you are eligible for an upgrade, I would suggest using your upgrade to get the phone so that you can take advantage of any promotional pricing that is going on, for example, right now, Verizon is giving $300 off when you activate the phone on your VZW plan. If you buy it outright, it is full retail, $950. The good news is you can still trade in your old device, get a GC, and use it and other forms of payment to still make a voluntary down payment totaling almost 95% of the device's full cost, only this time, it will be the $650, not $950. The $300 off promotion is limited, so I would act fast. I see your question was submitted almost 3 weeks ago...so maybe you already got your Note8...
