if you're buying unlocked, choose activate later. Activate today is only for selected carriers such as Verizon or sprint. You can purchase unlocked and call or go into your carrier's store and have them assist with switching sim card if u have it over to your new phone. They'll ask you for the model of your new phone and any other info they'll need to help you switch it over
