• It's open with no cover. Stuff can and will eventually get in there, but it's really nothing to lose sleep over.

• You will want a Silicone Guard case to protect it against drops. My Otterbox has a charger cover. I don't recall if it had a plug of some kind, which Best Buy removed when they put it in the Otterbox for me.

• No cover on standard S4. The AT&T S4 Active model does have port covers.
