It's my understanding if you keep your same contract features, that your monthly price should remain the same (I've upgraded through Best Buy twice now). I was on a grandfathered plan and actually reduced my monthly bill a few dollars switching over to the mobile share plan with AT&T for just myself (obviously, this all depends on your contract, your current plan features, upgrade eligibilty, any added features, etc.). You should be able to get a quote at the store, too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not sure what the 49.99 is for. If it is the activation fee that would be $40.00, and you would pay the price for the phone, if you continue the with a 2 year agreement. This fee is waved if you elect to go with AT&T next, which the phone would cost about $20.00 a month for about 30 months, but you can then upgrade in 12 to 18 months depending on what you selected.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There will be a fee from AT&T even if you are already a customer. Mine was a $40 upgrade/activation fee. They'll find a way to stick a fee in there no matter what.
