I just did an upgrade/trade-in while paying off my phone at Bestbuy. Verizon will require you to payoff your S7 before initiating a new contract. In other words, you will have to payoff your S7 before you either trade it in or keep it. If you trade it in, Verizon will discount your monthly payment on the S8 or S8+ by $20/month for 24 months.

if you have to trade in your phone to Verizon to upgrade than you can only do it through Verizon .
if you were to sell the phone and pay off your balance to Verizon for that phone than you can upgrade here

All upgrades with Verizon must go through Verizon.
