The International and the US version are different. Each carrier uses multiple frequencies for phone coverage. The International version covers some of the US frequencies but not all of them. The US version covers all (or maybe most?) of the US frequencies. An International version used in the US will still work, but you might not get as good coverage as you would with the US version. You might be travelling through an area where they are using frequencies that your phone does not cover. Then you will not get a signal where the US version would.
