• As far as I know, (it may not cover everything), the phone bought from a carrier may be updated the same time as they update their branded phones. Unlocked is updated at different times. Also, the unlocked version does not carry the carrier specific apps that come pre-downloaded. Unlocked can be used with GSM or CDMA right off the bat also.
