It is a flexible plastic that snaps on to the phone snugly and protects all edges and corners of the phone providing a shock absorbing bumper if dropped.

Gorilla glass is standard. I would highly recommend an additional protective case. They are online from $8 if you shop around. The durability is a military spec but these are not toys either. I love my S9+!
