“Can you text and also send pictures with this tablet? Would it have to be connected to the Internet to do so or a cell phone? I use a "no-contract" cell phone, would this work for me? Any advice much appreciated!”

You can use one of the free text apps that you can download off the net. The text app will work only if u have Wifi. I use an app called TEXT NOW. when i sign up, i get a phone # also. I use it for texting all the time - incoming and outgoing text both. No contract - No fee. Not sure about the voice phone call capabilities. Phone is in a Receive mode only. Call goes thru sometimes and choppy. Used it once on an overseas trip was able to receive calls. only problem or annoyance is some ads. For a free to use text without monthly payments what is wrong. I have used for over an year and works for me with Wifi on
