According to Best Buy the device is unlocked. Technically they are correct however, you will have to spend some time either tweaking the APN settings. All dependent on where you live. In Seattle I had to use an APN of one of T-mobiles prepaid networks. Had I not done this or figured it out, it would be a wifi only device or purchase a data only plan from Verizon. I was totally trying to avoid this. The issue is that although Verizon and tmobile use the same lte networks they use different bands. It all depends where you're located.
