It syncs with a Samsung phone, I'm not sure if it works for any android phone. I can receive and make phone calls and texts, its used as a replacement for my phone for a similar reason

With the Call & text on other devices feature, you can make and receive calls on your tablet as long as it's signed into the same Samsung account as your phone. You can also send messages. However, the connected phone will need to have active service. Since this device is a Wi-Fi tablet, you would not be able to make or receive calls.
