• Hello Holly, good question! Samsung has Bluetooth and LTE smart watches. The LTE version can receive calls and messages without being connected to a phone. However, this watch model is the Bluetooth version. ^Elizabeth

• If you want to leave your phone in the car or home while you're out then yes. I believe you have to be within 30 ft of the phone or something along those lines.
