You can answer text message by different modes and one of them is writing in your own handwriting, or yes you can type your response, you can add emoji as well. It is so cool to write in your hand writing and it translates to text. My favorite galaxy watch thus far. Before this one I like the galaxy gear second model that came out and after that I wasn't impressed but this watch is amazing.

You can type an answer (it is somewhat cumbersome, as it uses a keyboard that is set up like a phone - i.e., the number 2 has a,b,c on it etc.), use talk to text, or use your finger to write on the screen (which will convert to typed text). Your phone will have to be within bluetooth range.
