No, you can talk through the watch . But you can answer calls and tell your phone to make calls . Works well if in hands free car and you have blue tooth connection . It's helped me not miss a call, because my watch vibrated, alerted me I had a call, I selected answer on my watch, as I walked over to my cell phone that was muted laying on coffee table. Think of the watch as an remote extension of your cell phone.

You can receive calls with the watch alone. It has access to your contacts it can make calls that will show up on your phone
