“Can the watch simply link via bluetooth to my phone? What if I don't want it to be a stand alone? I hate paying 10.00 a month (as of 10/24/17 that's the monthly charge).”

They sell a version of this without the network in it. But it's better to spend the extra 50 bucks to have it and not need it than to than need it and not have it

Yes, you can. You can link to your smartphone by only bluetooth. This will save your battery and get 2-3 days.
