• The Samsung Gear app is supposed to work on all Android 4.3 & up smartphones. I have two different phone models with it installed on. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager

• According to their website, yes. http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-s3/device-compatibility/ However, I switched from a Nexus 6P to the new Note8 and the Samsung phone works much better and has more features than it's counterpart. Example: Uber was never an option to install on the Nexus 6P but immediately showed up after switching to Samsung.
