The settings and such show up at the top of the bar in white characters, shining through the black mesh covering. Not on the TV screen. A bit difficult but you can hold the remote close to it while you make any changes. There are 4 buttons at the front of the bar also for making these changes, so two ways to set up the thing.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My HW-B650/ZA also turns itself off. I have to hit the power button on the remote. On the other issue I'll try various HDMI inputs and outputs from the TV to see if I can get the controls to come up. The other day the volume didn't change with the TV remote, it went to 50 and got somewhat louder but then from 50-100 didn't get any louder. I still need to try removing the optical cable and see if that changes anything.

Please try again later.Funny you should ask.The soundbar is not as high quality as I thought it was.I am having major issues with it turning off by itself thus not allowing the Direct tv remote to work the sound.Brand new tv & bar together too.Compatibility may be your issue since your tv is 12yrs old.Some displays may/may not work on older sets.Any computer tech/tv service provider,can assist you with the issues.Try another sound bar (if available) & see if that works or not.I am sorry you are having issues.I KNOW first hand how frustrating this can be.
