• Yes, we are able to use either remote. It is easier to use the cable remote, so you don't have to use both.

• Hello Sue, Yes you can! Follow the instructions below on how to set that up if you are not using a Samsung TV. 1. Turn Off the Soundbar. 2. Push up and hold the WOOFER button for 5 seconds. Each time you push the WOOFER button up and hold it for 5 seconds, the mode switches in the following order: “Off-TV Remote” (Default mode), “Samsung-TV Remote”, “All-TV Remote”. The middle LED on top of the Soundbar will blink Cyan ONCE to enable a Samsung TV remote to control Soundbar. It will blink BLUE ONCE to show that a third party remote has been enabled. ~Samsung Solutions
