“Sooooo my phone is running out space(samsung 23).....can I use this to back up all the photos and videos? Also would I be able to back up my laptops photos,videos? As much as room would allow? What is the life expectation of these things? Fail rate?”

The life is better than regular hard disks. I had 5 tb western digital and it failed couldn’t recover any data. SSD drives are more stable and you can back up from your phones, laptop and tablets. Failure rate is low compare to regular external hard disks
