Your Chromebook should be able to mount the drive, as long as you don't format it NTSF or some weird format. The exFAT file system should be fine on Chromebook. As for how many photos it would hold, that would really depend on the file format (RAW or JPEG) and the resolution of your camera.

Yes. It can save store a lot of pictures. How many photos? It depends on the quality of the pictures MB, how often you save as well as the important of the pictures and so on. For the same picture, I sometimes save it on two different flash drives.

The common conversion is:  250,000 photos taken with a 12MP camera OR, 250 movies (500 hours of HD video) OR, 6.5 million document pages.
All of this varies depending on the size of your files.

It depends on the size of your photos. It is 2TB so will hold a lot of regular photos that you have taken on your phone. If you are trying to save super high quality RAW image files then that will take up more space. It will work with any laptop that has a USB-C port or adapter USB.
