This player has an upscaling capability. Our regular blue rays definitely look better.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will improve the quality, but to get the full benefit, Ultra HD Blu-rays with a 4K TV with HDR will give you the best quality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The product description says that the player will upscale the pictures from regular blu ray movies or DVD. I am happy with the quality of the blu ray movies, especially the newer one. However, the picture doesn't look goo when I put on a DVD of a recent movie The Atonement. However, that might be because I have a 75 inch 4K TV. And with a screen that size, the picture quality will deteriorate for a non HD movie. I can't even play Frazier on Netflix because the show is not aired on HD quality.

However if you have a 4K TV, this unit will upscale a standard bluray to 4K, and it will play 3D blurays. Most 4K TV's will upscale as well. if you connect a standard bluray player to them. When upscaling there are going to be gaps in the image and the computer will extrapolate the information to fill in those gaps with from the pixels around it to create what appears to be a sharper image, but it's not native 4K and will result in occasional artifacts that may make the image blur or partially freeze from time to time. This is especially true if your watching something with fast motion, or lots of green (sports) or with lots of contrast. (i.e. a star field from a sci fi movie) To view native 4K you not only need a 4K source. (i.e. 4K bluray, some Netflix and now Dish on Demand programs) a 4K television and the proper cables to connect them all together. Make sure you are using the proper HDMI cables when you connect this unit to your television.
I would recommend:
